The girls’ and boys’ varsity cross country teams are headed to the state meet after the district meet hosted at Minden’s Country Club on Oct 18. The boys’ team won first place while the girls brought home second place.
The boys all placed in the top 30 out of 68 total runners. Senior Charlie Evans placed second (17:09.32), junior Jayden Slagle got third place (17:31.55), senior Evan Hermanson took home a tenth place medal (17:50.86), senior Kash Majerus got 16th place (18:28.92), freshman Deagan Handrup took 27th (19:06.4), and freshman Grady Moody placed 30th (19:25.36).
On the girls’ side, junior Lexi Ericksen brought home the gold medal (20:09.83), junior Ella Eggleston placed fifth (21:25.70), sophomore Kailey Dick got fifteenth (22:46.67), junior Savanna James finished in sixteenth (22:52.43), freshman Braxtyn May placed 17th (23:06.60), and freshman Josie Daugherty got twentieth (23:29.37).
Moody said he thinks the team did pretty good but is not at their full potential yet. To reach their full potential, they are working hard at the beginning of the week and slowly doing easier workouts as the week progresses for the state meet on Friday.
When asked how the boys would do at state, Moody predicted that he thinks they will win. The girls also have been working to aim for first for the district and state meet.
The state meet will be held on Oct 25 at the Kearney Country Club. Class C boys will run at 3 o’clock, Class C girls will run the last race of the day at 4:30, and Class C and D awards will follow at 4:30.
