The Aurora Lady Huskies volleyball team had a bittersweet ending to their season with a win

against Central City, but a loss against GICC, ending their season at sub-districts.

The Lady Huskies played a total of five sets against Central City. Aurora won the second set 25-22, the fourth set 25-21, and the fifth set 15-10.

Huskies had a heartbreaking ending to their season losing to GICC in three sets.

“There was a lot of growth this year since we were a young team, and this season was a stepping stone for the seasons to come,” senior Naela Merrihew said.

Outside hitter Kehlanee Bengtson led the team in kills with a season total of 187. All-around hitter Denae Nachtigal led the team with a hitting percentage of 12.1%.

Libero Reagan Ashby had an average of 5.6 digs per set. Hitter Tainee Merrihew led the team with a total of 39 blocks for the season.

“Towards the end of the season our blocking and our defense improved tremendously,” junior Morgan Calkins said.

The Huskies ended their season with an 8-24 record. Even though the record was below Husky goals Morgan said she felt the team always gave full effort.

In addition to on-court efforts, the team worked to become closer and strengthen the bonds between players.

“We had team suppers before games, where we sat and enjoyed each other's company,” Morgan said. “We got closer together as a team. Our chemistry improved more than it ever has.”

“Our team stuck together through every game, and we didn’t point fingers at any individual,” Naela added.
