Aurora Cross Country ran its own meet, on Sept. 8 at the Poco Creek golf course with senior Lucas Gautier earning third place and junior Charlie Evans fourth. On the girls' side, sophomores Kendal Wineteer, Alexis Erickson and Ella Eggleston ran well, earning the eighth, ninth, and tenth spots.
“I feel like I performed up to standard, even though I would have liked to run faster and place higher,” said Charlie. “My thoughts during the meet were pretty organized for the most part. I felt excited but nervous basically the whole time but I kept calm and ran my race to the best of my ability for God's glory and not mine. I just had to remember to not stress and know that God has a plan for me and I just need to follow as best as I can.”
Charlie finished with a time of 17:39.76, three seconds over his PR.
“Going into the meet, I had a lot of confidence in myself and our entire team,” said Kendal. “Since we had home court advantage, we’ve been practicing on the course for a week now, so I knew our team had more experience there than anyone else. During the race, I would just focus on getting to the next 1k mark. Letting my more experienced teammates pull me through the end.”
Kendal, performing the best out of the girls, ran a new PR of 21:12.24, beating her old PR by 12 seconds.
